Rules somebody understands.
Managed firewall services priced per location, with advanced configuration and site-to-site VPN quoted separately.
Most small-office firewalls are carrying a configuration nobody can explain. Rules were added over years by different people to make one thing work, none were removed, and the result is a policy that is simultaneously too permissive and blocking something somebody needs.
That matters more than it used to, because the firewall is now the only meaningful boundary a lot of small offices have. It is also the device most likely to be running firmware with a published vulnerability, since updating it means a short outage nobody wants to schedule.
Routine work here is included with network support: monitoring, firmware, and the rule change you need this week. Anything that amounts to a redesign is quoted, because pretending a policy rebuild fits in a monthly fee is how providers end up doing it badly.
What is covered
Monitoring and routine rule changes are part of the per-location network add-on. Advanced configuration and site-to-site VPN are quoted per project, because the work varies too much to publish a number honestly.
Included
- Monitoring, so we know it is down before you do
- Firmware updates scheduled deliberately, outside working hours where possible
- Routine rule changes: opening a port for a new application, blocking a range
- Reviewing what is there and telling you which rules no longer make sense
- Guest network isolation and basic segmentation on existing hardware
Not included
- A full policy rebuild, which is quoted as a project
- Site-to-site VPN design and setup, quoted per tunnel
- Formal security assessment or penetration testing
- Compliance configuration tied to a named audit and evidence pack
Questions on this specifically
How much does managed firewall cost per month?
There is no separate firewall fee. Monitoring, firmware and routine rule changes are part of the per-location network add-on. Advanced work is quoted per project.
Why will you not publish a price for advanced firewall configuration?
Because it would be a made-up number. The work depends entirely on what is in the current policy, and we cannot know that until we look. We would rather quote it after twenty minutes of reading your rules than publish a figure we then have to walk back.
Can you take over a firewall somebody else configured?
Yes, and that is the normal case. The first thing we do is document what is actually in there, which frequently turns up rules nobody can account for.
Do you do penetration testing or compliance work?
No. That is specialist work with a specific scope and a report attached, and it is not what a flat per-seat plan buys. If you need it, say so and we will tell you what to look for rather than pretending we can do it.
